I think this mini session and the previous one I posted are perfect examples of how styling can change the overall vibe of your session so much. Both families did a great job putting their outfits together (love the color pops!!) but you’ll see how much it changes the overall look of their sessions. The images were taken on the same day at the same location within an hour of each other but yet I’m not sure you would guess that looking at them. Now granted the light had changed, but even if it hadn’t the clothing choices each say something completely different.
The first family went with more summery clothing and colors. They are wearing shorts, dresses and light linens. The second family chose a beautiful fall color palette and rocked some layers. Both sessions are beautiful but tell a completely different story. One suggests a warm summer day at the beach, while the other sets the tone for a crisp, serene fall stroll in the sand. Again, these were taken within an hour of each other.
Another thing to notice is that even though it’s the same location I put them in some different spots as well because of these choices. The first family I photographed more amongst the colorful homes at the edge of the beach because the colors of their outfits went well in that setting. If I had taken this family to that same spot it wouldn’t have worked. The bright summer colors of the homes would have clashed with these fall tones.
I wanted to point this out to show you how much your clothing choices effect your sessions, just as much if not more than your location choice. I know, it’s already so much pressure to choose what to wear, why would I do this to you!? Try to think of this as another fun way to communicate more about your family and make your images unique to you.
Also, keep in mind how you will want to use your images. If you want to print them for your home it’s best to wear colors that will work with the color scheme and vibe you have in your house. If your home is all rustic chic you might not want to wear super bright colors to your session. But, if your home is like mine and filled with color and quirk, wearing all neutrals might look out of place.
Remember, if you book a session with me I’m always here to offer help if you’re feeling overwhelmed by these choices.
